My philosophy in art education includes that all children must have a stimulating educational environment where they have the ability to grow mentally, emotionally, socially, and physically. I desire to create an atmosphere that provides a safe environment and a place for students to be unique. As an artist myself, my work focuses on many aspects of my personal growth emotionally, so creating a space for students to feel comfortable to work through those is important for my classroom. I will assist my students in the process of discovering themselves and accepting both who they are as an artist and as a person. I will have an open mind and high expectations, as I believe I owe students in demonstrating care and consistency to the classroom. I will encourage my students to learn by incorporating multi-media and providing options for students. I believe, based on my own artwork, that learning through a variety of mediums helps student growth in challenging students to think differently and expand their ideas. I think that it is important that I become a teacher so that I can demonstrate to students the importance of trying various mediums and how they can be combined with one another to create a new art form. In my own work, I combine painting and drawing with ceramics to create my art forms. As a learner myself, I will continue to learn more about the field by attending workshops, traveling to conferences, and communicating with other art educators. I will continue to try new media and use them in my artwork.
